Away in manger
triumphant angel chorus
drummer boy awaits

Transcendent Contact
Music plays quietly
delicate notes of joy and love
uplifting
Heartwarming tears of gratitude
offered while on knees of the moment
Beauty and compassion
shared in a circle of safety
stories of hardship and pain
stories of hopes and desires
enveloped in a halo of acceptance
Dream catchers woven
in a time of listening
open hearts
exposed and vulnerable
gathered in hands of friendship
Ragged threads
braided as one
no longer frayed
strengthened by unity
now a beautiful tapestry
Lives unfold
as each thread is touched,
colored, named
Mystical artwork
mysteriously created
Music soars
a divine chorus
a privileged instant
Mother Earth’s Frequency
Mother earth’s frequency
heartbeat of a drum
awaken soul memories
using ancient tradition
recall earlier time
simplicity of beliefs
every living being carries a song within
use the drums to release
magical musical melodies
consecrate sacred space
musical ritual
protect peaceful place
detect
accept
connect
song of reverence
shake, rattle, drum
Mother earth’s frequency
da – dum
da – dum

Moon Rattle
(internet photo)
moon rattle in my palm
acoustic spirit world connector
blend of natural elements and mystical belief
smooth white mollusk
encircled by brown striations
symphonic blend
crustacean style Sydney opera house
perfect to capture the roar and applause of the sea
to echo and amplify beach pebbles that
tumble and jump over each other within
browns and white whorl to a creamy point
milky way thoughts of origin
time and distance transcended
soulful continuity
the rattle contains energy
mystery
a reminder of celestial guidance
sun and moon drawing forth emotion
a vision of waves washing over
gently
swaying
caressing to and fro
crashing
pulling
spewing foam in a stormy moment
mimicking the ebb and flow of life
taut deer hide
sandpaper rough
tanned creamy white
encloses the operatic opening
captures vibrations
magnifies their song
an intuitive stroke paints the leather
a coppery swirl of motion
rises
bends
folds itself around
a yin yang symbol
twin fish
balanced
spooning each other
their bright red eyes
seeing beyond the palm of my hand
see my soul
see the universe
ready to carry my artful prayers
rattle vibrations
heavenward
Hypnotic State
I find myself in an unknown land
sleep walking
body in a trance
talons of comprehension
have loosened their grasp
taken flight
People smile quarter moon smiles
kindness evident in soft brown eyes
best human qualities on display
but no matter how hard I try
the exotic lilting language
remains foreign to me
estranged
I am learning this milieu
through faculties long dormant
acquiring trust in my senses
Sight allows a glimpse of this new world
garbled symbols join movement, color, style, rhythm
a patchwork concept that taunts
hanging just beyond perception
I smell loneliness, hunger, happiness, JOY
The environment tastes purple
unusual
tantalizing
inviting
Although not mute
my tongue feels twisted
articulation a lost art
formation of sound demands effort
conscious awareness
My ears delight in the musical litany I hear
long for when my own body does not betray
with crass sounds
indelicate and rude
but can join the melodic refrain
lovely angelic chorus
of those that surround me
Dancing Dragon

She danced to the music
twirling step by step
her little skirt spinning out from her body
like a toy top set in motion
Her eyes closed
lashes dark against porcelain cheeks
that were red and glowing as if lit from within
Happy go lucky
she practiced jaunty quick moves
hops
skips
bows
sashaying
this little show girl was
putting on quite a display
her joy was unmistakable
I felt grateful
for the gift of her dance
the vision of her
carefree performance
awoke a sleeping dance dragon
within my heart
I found my foot tapping
myself smiling
and soon
I too
was dancing with abandon
Pied Piper
(This post was inspired after hearing Lemon Bucket Orkestra from Toronto, Canada. A lively, high energy performance!)
Pied Piper leads
rollicking fast paced musical experience
Overworked feet stomp
weary hands clap
day to day life is forgotten
Tambourine jangles
keeping pace with piper
violin sends notes screaming
squealing into the frenzy
People jump up and dance
unable to resist whirling dervish notes
European melodies
Accordion tunes
soulful immigrant history
lead frolicking party
Multicultural fusion of folk song
touch visceral chord
reach in and draw out inherent rhythms
playfulness
joy
Hips sway, bodies twist
primal encounter
children and adults
young and old
are infused with instinct
for emotional expression
no one can remain still
In presence of piper
people become sea of motion
bouncing
jumping
arms legs akimbo
Piper tells stories without words
there is an urgency
come now
dance now
now, now, it must be NOW
Music builds to a crescendo
Nothing matters
but NOW
This Moment!
Cacophony
Skeletons jangle
dangle from a string
produce eerie music
wind chime of dead
relative stories
long gone
attempt to be heard
whispers of memories
shift bones
change beat
swing rhythm
recollection rises to surface
before recognition
slips away
elusive melody
mournful
an elegy
replaced by
quickened tumble of sound
lilting spill of noise
another story scrambling to be told
“don’t forget about me
I’m still here”
movement increases
bones compete to bring forth
their etude
music becomes cacophony!
indistinguishable chords
lyrical distortion
lost in the chaos!
skeletons untangle
slowly hang limp
a bump now and then
produces a click or a clack
hands are over ears
strange chorus deferred to another time
conductor must be found
for this otherworldly orchestra
to decipher
ancestor

Spontaneous Aria
The photo is from the Beautiful Garden website. It is where I imagine the birdsong I heard would originate 🙂
(This post is dedicated to my dear friend Betty)
Today when I was out for a run
I wished you were there
to inform and enlighten me
as to which of our feathered friends originated
the alluring melody I heard
I thought you would know it in an instant!
My knowledge of birds is so limited
I can recognize the haunting call of a loon
at dusk or dawn
I know the repetitive chick-a-dee-dee-dee
This afternoon I was an uninvited witness
to a bewitching love warble
no bird was seen
not even the fleetest glimpse of plumage
When the achingly enthralling song began
city din was drowned out
no strolling pedestrian chatter
no traffic hum or passing train roar
The musical tenor was so pure
I was transported through time
to an era of innocence, enveloped by love
My breath caught
my heart was pierced by the sheer elegance of the cadence
I strained to hear more
but was left disappointed
I would have to settle for the brief solo performance
No encore was forthcoming
