Social Isolation

Today it’s difficult for me to remain optimistic. It’s our granddaughter’s birthday and to add insult to injury, the gift we ordered online to be delivered before this special day, has not yet arrived. I don’t want to have the day pass empty handed from us so I have written her a humble story and illustrated it to the best of my ability. Singing “Happy Birthday” over the phone with her triggered my tears… I guess it’s a small price to pay if we can remain healthy.

I wish everyone strength and fortitude to get through this. May we all remain healthy!

Reading some poetry by Jimmy Pappas, a New Hampshire poet, inspired the following:

Social Isolation

We cannot
tell

if it is time
for

Friday night wine
or

Sunday
prayers.

Let us
bow our heads.

I feel you. I feel this, deeply. It’s so hard to not be with loved ones, waiting in uncertainty, wondering when this will be “over.”

I can’t imagine how hard it was to have an isolated birthday party for your granddaughter. Your tears tell of your love though she already knows this. Hang in there! It’s good to remind ourselves why we self isolate and protecting family is the big one. Your poetry selection is very apt.

Thanks Meghan. I don’t usually post a poem I write “on the fly” but that evening that is what the page inspired. I appreciate your encouragement.

I am so sorry I am just getting to read this, but I am so glad I did. Your poem was lovely and I am sure your granddaughter appreciated it and will remember that birthday forever. This pandemic has us all being away from those we love, but it is better to stay away for everyone including our own safety. Besides, it also allows us to be more creative with our ways of communicating and showing love to one another, which you managed to do quite well. Thank you, for sharing I enjoyed your story and poem. Be well, and stay safe.

    Cheryl
