Mother’s Day

Loving Moms
Mom’s day
day of the week
week, month, year
year – time to revel
revel in the joy
joy of motherhood
motherhood instinct
instinct for survival
survival of the fittest
fittest, fastest, fun-loving
fun-loving, carefree, protective
protective, fierce, kind
kind of special
special above all others
others only wish
wish they could have
have a mother like you!

shadow

a shadow crossed Nigeria
those in its path
were swallowed
enveloped by unspeakable evil

hideous laughter rose above
tortured cries for help
cries of anguish

captors mocked and taunted victims
voiced threats
while the world watched

friends and family of the captives
begged for mercy on behalf of
their loved ones
they pled to the world
help us now
and the world responded

tweets lit up the airwave
facebook and blogs sent posts
speeding around the globe
righteous indignation shared
and the world fumed

the innocents are still not found

social media participants
may feel they have done their part
after all they made known their disapproval
they took a stand….

but those enveloped in shadow
remain lost

Please Help – We Have To Take A Stand

Remaining silent is not an option.

As most may be aware on April 16 of this year 200 girls were kidnapped by an extremist group called ‘Boko Haram‘. This was done so that they would be unable to take their examinations and to call a halt to the education of women in that country. Around the world the…

Man in My Life

There’s a man in my life
I whisper his name
dark and mysterious
loves to play teasing games

There’s a man in my life
untamed and wild
he loves and supports me
he’s gentle and mild

There’s a man in my life
with excitement and charm
he surveys around
to keep me from harm

There’s a man in my life
I shout out his name
I love him! I need him
my wonderful swain

Crash and Burn

Tempest brewing
pushing limits

Thoughts bombard
from every direction
pierce heart
puncture skin
catch hair

tangled

inspiration
hallucination
provocation
tempting fate

late nights
lack of sleep
urgency prevails

one more thing
one more thing
one more thing

Not enough time
so much to be done
lengthy lists trail on
a madness sets in
frenetic
fanatic
furious

emotional whirlwind

tears

dropped items
dropped calls
drops dripping unable to quench

nothing makes sense

embers burn
ready to ignite
burst into flame
consume all in path
ablaze
glorious fury
dances
skips

spent

only ashes remain

A New Day Dawning

Sky slowly changing
ink black to indigo blue
pink blush glow behind skyscraper silhouette
warm breath ache for change

Red light blinks
blink blinks
a beacon guide

Here here
safety
hear

Hear the rumble
metallic hum builds to a CRESCENDO
metal rolling over metal
c-train slides by
dull tuning fork ring left in its wake

Steel grey sky
consort for steely resolve

Be Fierce!

Remain steadfast on path of change

c-train thunders its approval
red light blinks yes
yes yes
you can!

A new day begins
