I’m Back :)
Dear Readers, I apologize for my absence from the page. It has been a revelation adapting and adjusting to retirement. I continue to write regularly (believe it or not!) and I continue to learn cello. I’m not sure where the rest of my time goes…
In October I started noticing posts for a seven day challenge: Seven black and white photos of your life. No people, no pets, no explanations. I was immediately intrigued and started taking photos. What I didn’t do was go the extra step and post them. Therefore you will see I begin with some Hallowe’en themed photos. For the next while (more than seven days) I will be posting my pictures. I hope you enjoy glimpses into my neighborhood!
Thoughts of Dolomiti
As I prepare to leave on my next adventure, a canoe trip in northern Saskatchewan, my mind drifts to Italy and the via Ferrata I experienced with my husband and friends; the inspiration for the following poem.
I spring from the blanket
eyes circle the forest
my mind reaches out to the horizon
where a distance strains
above tree tops
steel cables follow
a line
ready for the high course
Dolomiti tower before me
a north wind blows
in a rush
I drag bruised legs
over jagged dusty rocks
carabiner clicks
count the path upward
suddenly I see a raven
black wings glint as she soars
my bandana waves
I lunge to the left
in my mind
I am Icarus
on my way to the sun
More Gaudi
Sagrada Familia, Barcelona
(Sagrada Familia dominates Barcelona’s skyline)
Sagrada Familia is a Catholic basilica in Barcelona. Construction began in 1882. In 1883 Antoni Gaudi became involved and made it his life’s passion. It was only one quarter complete when he died in 1926. Construction of the basilica relies solely on donations. It is hoped construction will be complete in 2026 – one hundred years after Gaudi’s death.
Sagrada Familia is unlike any of the churches we have seen on our travels and seems to defy description. Eyes feast on a buffet of sights that soar, colours that shade dark to light as they rise to the heavens, facades that carve Christian messages in their towers. Astonish, amaze, admire – wow!

Aren’t We All A Little Crazy At Times

Everything is set in motion.
Even if we wanted to
we can’t stop the train
hauling us into a future
we can’t know.
Comfort and security
habit and norm
blur scenes
fall to the wayside.
My heart skips a beat
out of rhythm
out of balance
missing
a sense of direction.
Winter Respite

We have been experiencing arctic cold temperatures and record snowfall. Yesterday the sun graced us with her glorious presence again and sent the thermometer and moods rising. We are expecting the warm weather to continue for the rest of the week – yay!
As I looked out my office window this morning I was met with a beautiful pink sky reflecting off a long, pointy icicle hanging precariously from an eave – thus the inspiration for today’s submission 🙂
