Twinkling solstice stars
flicker across sky, fleeting
Christmas memories

Soaring
Graceful eagle soars
silent overhead, prayer
hands point to heaven
Chattering
Icebox season of
Siberian frosty breath,
gelid words glissade
Lest We Forget
Forgotten fighters
lay frozen, solemn poppies
bleed red liberty
Updraft
Watercolor sky
muted emotions blend with
uplift in spirits
Words
Black and blue words
on a crumpled page
are rolled tight in a fist
and tossed aside.
Smothered phrases
unable to utter their meaning
sputter and gag as an agitated mind
quickly leaps from one unconnected passionate thought
to another.
Ink rolls smoothly
off the tip of a glib ball point pen,
sassy pink veneer self assured
and cocky.
But the streaky symbols
don’t stand a chance against lightening fast hands;
quick to judge and dispose impressions
before seeing becomes believing
and what is written
might be read as the truth.
Remember
Red poppies stand guard
row upon row sleeping men
passively lay prone
Breakfast
Full moon slides across
horizon, buttering it
for toasty sunrise
Ice Cube
I am an ice cube
cold
becoming colder
unfeeling
chilled to the bone
ice queen
icicles for tears
frozen heart
skate away from commitment
This frigid stance
won’t allow any hurt any pain
each layer of chilly precipitation
hardens my outer shell
protects from slings and arrows
hurled my way
ice water flows through my veins
I remain permafrost
rigid
firm in my resolve
unbending
Until the sun comes out
slow melt begins
gentle thaw
unconscious at first
rounding sharp edges of my frame
alarming me as my awareness takes hold
of this uninvited turn of events
I stay rooted to the spot
holding fast to old hurts
old stories
a glacial chunk meant to withstand
the test of time
Until the thaw spreads
through my solid core;
I finally crack
warmth seeps in
dissolving the cube I’ve become
leaving a puddle
in its wake
Ordinary
Beloved sleeping child,
ordinary miracle
right before my eyes
