There once was a girl named Mary
whose life was really quite ordinary
then came a hot flash
with brimstone and grey ash
poor molten veined girl named Mary!

Looming Rock
Dragons tooth rock looms
high over the horizon
aching muscles burn
Flicker
Twinkling solstice stars
flicker across sky, fleeting
Christmas memories
Soaring
Graceful eagle soars
silent overhead, prayer
hands point to heaven
Chattering
Icebox season of
Siberian frosty breath,
gelid words glissade
Lest We Forget
Forgotten fighters
lay frozen, solemn poppies
bleed red liberty
Updraft
Watercolor sky
muted emotions blend with
uplift in spirits
Words
Black and blue words
on a crumpled page
are rolled tight in a fist
and tossed aside.
Smothered phrases
unable to utter their meaning
sputter and gag as an agitated mind
quickly leaps from one unconnected passionate thought
to another.
Ink rolls smoothly
off the tip of a glib ball point pen,
sassy pink veneer self assured
and cocky.
But the streaky symbols
don’t stand a chance against lightening fast hands;
quick to judge and dispose impressions
before seeing becomes believing
and what is written
might be read as the truth.
Remember
Red poppies stand guard
row upon row sleeping men
passively lay prone
Breakfast
Full moon slides across
horizon, buttering it
for toasty sunrise
