Hiroshima…such a terrible, horrible moment in our time. “Bombs rain down on sacred groves” is a beautiful and eloquent line. Would the trees “rustle their disapproval” or would they burst into flame unable to to be heard but for their fiery passing? In a flash, gone.
I love the images your comment inspires, Meghan. It’s fascinating regarding Hiroshima because while so much was obliterated in an instant, all was not. Some trees were left standing, some buildings untouched.
Although I ended up writing about Hiroshima, I was inspired by frustration about the news reports we are hearing about what is happening in the Gaza strip and in the Ukraine. We just don’t seem to learn from history.
