Women’s March Jan21,2017

I’m proud to have marched with men and women who stood up globally to unite against hate, to unite for love, who stood up to shout that all lives matter.

shoulder to shoulder
solidarity grows,
growls to a global roar

Here are the messages from a sampling of signs:
It is time for women to stop being politely angry
Women’s rights are human rights
I march because I refuse to go backwards!
Still we rise
I’m not usually a sign person but Geez!
They call it locker room talk, I call it insecurity
No longer the silent majority
We’re not going away
Our rights are not up for grabs
We are women hear us roar in numbers to big to ignore!

Birdsong

starling

(starling: internet photo)

Little songbird pretends to be a cat.
Shadow of an eagle looms overhead,
peacock plumage in the trash.

Caw of a crow,
magpie screech,
you search for your sound.
Whistle of a robin,
chatter of a chick-a-dee,
what will be your melody?

Wind gusts an arrow at your throat.
A bruised song unburdens.
A ripple courses through the leaves.
Spiders glint on diamond webs.

Love rings your little beak.

Fletched feathers of your arrow
shatter the fake cat.
Your chirp roars.

Magical Brew

tea

Autumn sunshine
burst of energy
dark clouds banished for now

flags blowing
crisp attention
patriotism on display
no indication of alchemy at hand

delicate flavors
sweet aroma
hint of mystery in a cup

it’s magic
in a cup
magic steeping
brewing
in a cup

time stands still
with the meeting of two friends
encapsulated in a hug
encapsulated in a cup

a spell is cast with the first sip
the first kiss
the first sip of tea
that kisses the lips

roar of an engine breaks the enchantment
boxes are delivered
bicycles scoot by

music plays
patio drinks and laughter
weekend at hand
but
the mind is lost
steeped in memory
passion brewing
heat of magic
conjured in a cup
lingers on the lips
